As of January 1, 2022, under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.
At Southwest Counseling Center, we believe in transparency and informed care. As required by the No Surprises Act, clients who do not have insurance or are choosing not to use insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) outlining expected costs for therapy services.
What Is a Good Faith Estimate?
A Good Faith Estimate is a written summary of expected charges for therapy services. It allows you to understand and plan for the cost of care before your first session.
You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate:
- If you are uninsured
- If you are self-pay (not using your insurance)
- Before you receive services, or upon request
This estimate will include:
- The expected frequency and duration of sessions
- The cost per session
- Any additional fees related to services you request
Please note: this is an estimate, not a guarantee. Actual treatment needs and costs may vary over time.
Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute it. You can contact the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) to initiate the dispute resolution process.
To learn more and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1-800-985-3059. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1-800-985-3059.
